New Jaume Plensa exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.29 Palms

SPANISH artist Jaume Plensa has donated two of his works to Yorkshire Sculpture Park after his first major UK exhibition ended last Sunday.

More than 250,000 residents have enjoyed the exhibition since it opened in April last year – but visitors will still be able to see the sculptor’s work at the West Bretton park after it was revealed two pieces will stay on long-term loan.

Air sculptures Wonderland I (1993) and illuminated sculpture La Llarga Nit (Blind) (2010) will remain at the internationally-renowned outdoor art gallery indefinitely.

They are the latest addition to YSP’s open-air collection which includes Antony Gormley’s One & Other (2000), Martin Creed’s Work No. 700 (2007) and Madalena Abakanowicz’s Ten Seated Figures (2010).

The Jaume Plensa exhibition has been one of YSP’s most successful to date, bringing record numbers to the Park and receiving an overwhelmingly positive response.

Visitors have called it “sheer brilliance”, “absolutely stunning and uplifting”, while BBC Radio 1 DJ Mary-Ann Hobbs said it was “the most inspirational exhibition this year”.

Other celebrities who have enjoyed the show include Dizzee Rascal and KT Tunstall.

The YSP is open daily from 10am to 5pm and entry is free. Find out more on www.ysp.co.uk or 01924 832631.
