AUDIENCES will be transported to the magical world of Oz during a spectacular production by Wakefield Little Theatre.

The award-winning amateur group will bring their adaptation of the classic L Frank Baum story The Wizard of Oz to the Theatre Royal Wakefield stage from Wednesday February 15 to Sunday February 29.

Join Dorothy on her journey through the land of Oz, with new-found friends Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion, in search of the Emerald City and the great Wizard.

Theatre-goers will cower at the evil deeds of the Wicked Witch and delight in the happy-ever-after ending.

This stage adaptation, written by group member Paul Haley, was first performed by Wakefield Little Theatre in 1991, when a review in the Wakefield Express said: “It attracted children galore to the opening night who hissed and booed and shouted, ‘behind you’ in the best panto tradition, despite it not being a panto!”

Wakefield Little Theatre, which evolved from Wakefield Youth Dramatic Society in 1948, is the city’s oldest drama group and puts on around five shows a year in Wakefield and Barnsley.

For tickets, which cost between £10-£12, plus concessions, call the theatre box office on 01924 211311.
