Glavin refutes exodus claim as pair sign up

WAKEFIELD and Emley FC announced this week that Chief Executive Ric Knowles has left the club to join Unibond Premier League rivals, Gainsborough Trinity, writes Adrian Kennedy.

Former Lincoln City defender Knowles is based near the Gainsborough outfit and will take up the position full time and leaves with his old club's best wishes.

But as far as Pewits boss Ronnie Glavin is concerned Knowles will be the only departure from Belle Vue, as he dismissed press speculation suggesting several of his star players are set to leave.

Speculation surrounded the futures of former Huddersfield Town men, Ryan Crossley and goalkeeper Paul Cuss. And it was also claimed that star striker Simeon Bambrook would be on his way this summer.

But Glavin told Express Sport on Wednesday that he had no idea where the rumours had started "I have no idea at all where this came from, our chairman, Peter Matthews denies it and as far as I am concerned that is the truth.

"Bambrook still has a year on his contract and at the moment is staying where is."

The Pewits boss was also keen to set the record straight about the futures of Cuss and full back Crossley: "Both Ryan and Paul's contracts have come to an end, but I will be discussing a new one with Ryan soon.

"Paul has just returned from holiday and I am talking terms with him, which is how things should be done and I have no problem with that at all."

He also had some good news for Wakefield and Emley fans revealing that dynamic midfield duo Danny Day and Miles Thorpe have both agreed to new contracts with the club and said he was delighted the pair were staying.

Meanwhile as Glavin really starts to step up his preparation for the new season, the Pewits have announced two upcoming friendly matches, the first of which will be against Huddersfield Town's first team at Belle Vue on July 15.

This continues the good relationship between the two clubs, which stretches back to when the Pewits played at the old Welfare ground.

It will also give the perfect opportunity for the fans to see new strikers, Adam Ackroyd and Ian Twitchin in action.

Both were signed last week and will get the chance to show what they can do in the friendly against the Terriers.

The other game will be against NCE division one neighbours Ossett Albion on August 2 at their Dimple Wells ground and they hope to announce other games shortly.
