Boxer Ricky set for club appearance
The New Brookhouse Club in Wakefield is to host the local concert secretaries’ federation showcase, which is being held on May 14.
Singers Adam Le Feuvre, Remo, Guy Manrin, Charlie Grace and Richie Alexander, who I only saw last week, will make up the show. I may well go along and see the show and, as ever, admission is free.
Well done to local lad Jason Taylor, who did very well in his work as compere of a multi-agents’ showcase that I went along to see last week down in Barnsley.
Jason and his missus Leanne both performed solo sets on the show, in which eight different agents presented their acts. I hear that Alverthorpe WMC in Wakefield is to stage one of these shows in the near future, so watch out for that.
Express reader Melvin Buckley tells me he saw a new singer at Hemsworth West End Club last weekend that he wants readers to watch out for.
Sarah Jayne is a star in the making according to Melvin. He tells me that, despite a technical problem with her PA system, Sarah still managed to wow them in Hemsworth.
I worked with Wakefield singer Jade Adams in a show last Friday evening. Jade is 24 now and has been around our clubland scene for some time.
Despite occasional glimpses at top class work, Jade has not managed to hit the dizzy heights that were predicted for her not so long ago. Hopefully this superb singer and entertainer can find her way to the top without opting for the tribute option.
Boxing champion Ricky Hatton is to visit Crigglestone WMC on May 23 for a very special evening’s entertainment, which also features comedian Jed Stone.
Tickets are available at £25 and extra VIP tickets, where you can meet Ricky and receive a photo and a signed boxing glove, are available at £125 a ticket. It all sounds like a great night for sports fans, so get your tickets while you can.
That infamous party band Black Lace, from the Wakefield area when the original line represented this country in the Eurovision song contest back in 1979, came up in conversation last weekend.
After the death of singer Alan Barton, a singer on their later hits, such as I Am The Music Man, was Dene Michael. I worked with Dene last weekend and he tells me that he is to film a programme called The Love Boat for Sky TV. It all sounds very exciting and I’m sure that all Dene’s pals will be wishing him well.
Finally for this week I hope that readers will forgive me for inserting this personal note. I am to compere a variety show called The Showcase, which is being filmed by Sky TV on May 28.
A trade showcase, where acts are filmed in front of bookers from cruise companies, casinos, clubs and other venues, has never been done before. I hope to be the first to present such a show. I will include transmission details in this column and you can always edit out the bits when my ugly mug is on screen.
