the forced by-election has taken place for the vacancy on South Elmsall Town Council.
A petition signed by 10 South Elmsall residents was taken to Wakefield electoral office calling for a by-election.

This election took place on January 21. Out of the good few people who could have voted only 795 did, with the Labour candidate winning by 45 votes, so some people will have been disappointed.

But it's now stand up and be counted time, because the 10 people who signed this petition have caused South Elmsall taxpayers a large bill.
The final cost of the election will have to be paid by South Elmsall residents. Normally with a vacancy at this late time in the council's term of office a person is co-opted on for the short period so no costs go on council taxpayers.
