ON a recent Sunday morning I walked my dog with my five-year-old granddaughter. I understand and recognise that Februar is naturally a dirty month and everything naturally looks muddy and downtrodden.
Now here comes the bit I am seriously concerned about.
We walked through Kirkby Rec and back home. Everywhere we went the place was littered with beer cans and just about every piece of rubbish you can think of.
My granddaughter inquisitively likes to pick things up off the floor and I had to tell her to stop doing this as I did not know what could be mixed in with the litter, used syringes etc.
I know we are struggling and the council's budget is far from finite with the recent recession we have had and still are going through.
However, have all the street cleaners been laid off?
It was like a mirror image of the country.
Basically, there is no money about and if we cannot make money out of anything what's the point?
We have all given up and as a result the waste recycling plant has arrived earlier in South Kirkby than expected, except it is blowing all around the streets and the surrounding areas.
What kind of an impression will this give to any potential business people considering bringing business and investment or much-needed jobs to the area?
I will let your readers answer that one.
