When the Hemsworth Action Group challenged the proposed sale of the sports complex it was not to make it a political issue.
It's what we think is best for the Hemsworth people.
Those of us who have enjoyed sports, be it for pub, club or school, appreciate the need for good facilities and that's why we think the complex is our best option.
Coun West said something about
it being 'only a different location' in regards to the new site. I'll say. It's at the highest point in Hemsworth, open to all the elements and not a clubhouse in sight.
All the sporting facilities will be at one end of town.
The kids already run the gauntlet in Crosshills to get to school and back. Will they do it for the new site as well? I don't think so.
I know Hemsworth is dying a death, but is one more facility near the cemetery, another nail in the coffin?
C'mon councillors. Think. How about the Windsurfer? In contrast we could have a sheltered haven at the complex with easy access for young and old. And we could have a clubhouse where folks could meet even if they had no interest in sport whatsoever, they could just enjoy the scenery.
It might bring the community back together. If it did, that's when a community hall should be considered.
On a personal note, I think this kick in the backside is what Hemsworth has needed for years. So all you ex, and present, sporty-types, spectators and all you people who have verbally supported Ian Womersley and the action group, get to the Alpha every Monday at 7pm, we need your help.
Who knows? Coun West might work with us.
