As the normal January trading lull continues in our clubs, it will be interesting to see if this weekend sees busy houses for some very entertaining acts coming to them.
Comedian and singer Aiden Jay will visit Ferrybridge Progressive Club on Sunday evening and it will be nice to see a bit of comedy on locally.
There seems to be less and less work in clubs for comedy-based acts these days, with many club representatives seemingly opting for trendy singers.
I wonder if the majority of club audiences agree with this policy?
That excellent guitarist and singer Graham Heath is the man on stage at Pontefract Ex-servicemen's Club on Saturday night.
I worked with Graham a couple of times last year, once at Harehills Club in Leeds and again at a holiday centre on the East Coast.
On both occasions I was very impressed with this slick and professional entertainer.
Top band Aphrodite are the stars of the show at Hemsworth Miners Social Club, in Fitzwilliam, on Sunday evening.
This four-piece girl-fronted band are real crowd pleasers and should receive a warm Fitzwilliam welcome.
The Hit Men and Her appear locally on Saturday night when this Ryhill-based family band take to the stage at Girnhill Lane Club in Featherstone.
A great night is always assured when this band appears.
Hopefully the members of Sharlston Common Club will get behind the venue over the next few weeks as the its future trading position is clarified.
Why not pay a visit this weekend, as boy-girl duo Rise will be appearing on Saturday night.
Great comedian Simon Ashley is the man on stage at Kellingley Social Centre on Sunday evening.
I remember back in 1986 appearing in a show at which the club's former agent, the late Claude Hunter, was producer.
It all seems like many lifetimes ago now!
With many more local clubs forecasting a struggle for survival in 2009, I thought it might be time to provide club officials with the opportunity to use this column as a means to contact their members.
If your club has members who you very seldom see, and as a result may be unaware of how welcome new or returning visitors would be, then why not tell them so through this column?
The clubs which receive most coverage here in the Express are the ones whose representatives are regularly in touch with news and events.
I do try and trawl around the local club scene, but I simply can't be everywhere at once.
So, if your club would like to get the message across regarding exactly what you are providing in your local community, just drop me a line and we will feature you right here in the Express.
All you have to do is take the trouble to write, phone or e-mail.
Finally for this week, local musician Ken Wooffindin is looking around for ex-band mates at the moment and wonders if Express readers can help.
Ken was formerly a member of a band called More, whose other members included two original members of Black Lace, Ian Howarth and Ken Scott.
The two mates Ken is trying to track down are Angus Ferguson, who may still be clubbing under a stage name as a solo artiste, and John Hughes who used to work in the clubs under the stage name Jon Le Bon.
John Le Bon was an easy one for me to answer as he is now living and working in Thailand.
As for Angus, if anyone can help please get in touch and I will be happy to pass your messages on to Ken.
If you have any news or views for this column I would like to hear from you.
Just drop me a line at the Express or call my office number and leave a message, the number is 01924 370400.
