Many club people from Wakefield, Pontefract and the five towns district are sure to remember with some affection that great club man Stan Hartshorne.
Stan was my 'roadie' for a long time, but he was best known as a club official and a magazine publisher who used to travel across our area delivering clubland news.
This lovely man died of lung cancer and it will be 10 years since his passing in Oct
ober.
A a result of the forthcoming anniversary of Stan's death, club official Les Turfrey and I have joined forces in an idea.
The Stan Hartshorne Memorial Show will be staged on Thursday, October 29, at Westgate Common Club in Wakefield.
The proceeds from this show will be donated to a charity called UK Cancer Research.
I am mentioning this event quite early so that Stan's old mates can put the date in their diaries and hopefully attend on the night.
I am also hopeful that some of Stan's favourite acts will volunteer to donate their time and talents to this very special evening.
I shall be going along to produce the show and to compere on the night.
If you have anything to contribute towards this forthcoming event, please get in touch with me as I will be putting everything together for what I hope will be one of the club nights of 2009.
The Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries Federation will stage their next showcase at Horbury wmc on Tuesday, March 24.
Local agent and singer Jane Tracie, from Tricks of the Trade Ltd, will be presenting the show and the acts on stage will include Real Women, Olivia Leigh and Picture This.
Admission is free and this monthly event always gives this area the opportunity for all club people to get together.
Top duo Scandal are the star attraction at The B&S Sports Club in Featherstone tomorrow night.
For my money Scandal just have to be the top all-round entertainment duo currently plying their trade in the northern club scene and Craig and Audrey, who make up the act, really do know how to put on a show.
If you fancy a laugh on Sunday evening then Ferrybridge Progressive Club could be the right place to head.
Appearing on stage is the very funny and tuneful Stuart Eden, who just has to be one of the hottest comedy vocal acts in the North.
Ladybalk Social Club in Pontefract is the place for a great night out on a Friday evening.
With club stars like Darren Yorke, Steve Andrews and the effervescent Cat Lee all lined up to appear during March, the scene couldn't be set much better for some great nights out.
Well done to concert secretary Johnnie Towler for lining it all up.
The gorgeous Ali Jordan and up-and-coming singing star Louie Stephens are just two of the Sunday night attractions at Kellingley Social Centre this month.
Both of these rising stars are sure to do the business.
