ELVIS is in the building this weekend and a trip to Normanton could see all fans of the king of rock 'n' roll reliving some of the musical memories thanks to local impersonator Paul Somers.
St John's Terrace Club in Normanton is the place to see Paul in action and Saturday is the night to catch him.
Paul's Elvis shows are always well attended, so be early for a good seat.
I remember, some years ago, attending one of Paul's show in Nor
manton at Woodhouse Hill Club, which is known locally as The Linnet, and the large concert room there filled up very quickly indeed.
I worked with Paul Somers only last week at a charity event over in the Wakefield area, which raised more than £1,400 for Candlelighters children's cancer group and he was in fine fettle.
Also on the same show were comedy duo Sharp Experience, that lovely singer Karen King and clubland cover girl Carrie Michaels.
I went along to compere this show, which attracted a full house to Alverthorpe wmc and a great time was had by all.
I also worked in a double bill last weekend with Upton-based club star Michaela May.
The show was at a lovely venue in Lincoln and Michaela was on top form with her mixture of soft rock covers, ballads and humorous patter.
Michaela really must be one of the leading solo female entertainers currently out there on the northern club scene.
In a future column I'm hoping to include a report on the charity show which was staged earlier this week at Edward V11 Club in Allerton Bywater.
The show was organised by Castleford singer and charity fundraiser Johnnie Vallon, who is affectionately known by one and all as The Singing Ref.
If you didn't manage to make it along to the show then hopefully I'll be able to report on how things went.
On the local band scene I see that the Tamla Motown act, The Fantastics, will be visiting Moorthorpe Empire Club this weekend.
These popular lads from South Yorkshire will be popping up on stage there on Sunday evening and I think we can confidently predict a full house for this one.
Incidentally top duo Shameless will appear there at the same venue on Saturday, February 28, and this boy-girl act really are worth seeing.
There was a packed house at The Pit Club last weekend for the appearance of glam rock band Tiger Feet and a similar-sized crowd could be repeated next month when former members of top band Nite Skool, who are known nowadays as Rockwood, play there.
Many people from this area will remember Nite Skool well and Sunday, March 15, will be the night to see some of their original members in a new line-up.
The line-up for the Blackpool Command Show has just been arranged.
Local acts like Picture This and The Sharp Experience have been included in this year's show and Pontefract agent Brian Cliff is again producing the show.
I hear that last year's show was much better than the year before, so hopefully this will be another good night for organiser Alan Pilborough and his Blackpool contingent.
