With Valentine's Day this Saturday it seems that a few of our clubs have some glamour and romance arriving on their stages.
The charity evening at Edward VII Club at Allerton Bywater last week went very well, with Johnny Vallon, aka The Singing Ref, on fine form.
I couldn't get over to the show as planned due to another urgent appointment, but Harry Turnstyle who was on the show tells me that everyone had a great time and the others acts, including club star Sonya, were all well received.
Hopefully Edward VII Club will be going from strength to strength in the future and I'm told that there have been recent changes in the running of the club, which should be of huge benefit.
We are always happy to publish details of charity events in clubs here in the Express, so all you have to do is get in touch and let us know all about them.
A date for the diary of all talent spotters is the Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries Federation showcase, which will be held over at Horbury wmc on Tuesday, March 24.
The compere for the evening will be Jane Tracie and the acts appearing are Picture This, Olivia Leigh, John Mycroft and Real Women.
Admission is free for those who wish to make the trip over to Horbury from this area.
Top band The Heroes will bring their video screens and their multi-tribute show at Hemsworth Miners Social Club in Fitzwilliam this weekend for a Sunday gig.
This band are very highly-rated, so expect a huge turnout for this one.
Girnhill Lane Club regular and Featherstone man John Holt, who was granted the MBE in the last honours list, is to attend a tribute concert in his honour at the club on Monday, March 23.
The acts on stage will be club favourites Fuel and everyone is welcome to help John celebrate his brilliant accolade.
Featherstone wmc is pressing ahead with its entertainment plans for the club, which all sound too good to miss.
Neil Siddall from the club, which can be found on Green Lane, was in touch by e-mail with news that they are persevering and trying to bring the crowds in for Monday night live entertainment.
Recently the club has seen visits from AKA, Olivia Leigh and Elliot Frisby to name but a few.
Neil tells me the club is still not making a profit on these nights, but that there are signs that the Monday night show strategy could work long term.
If you want a top quality night out on a Monday, just head for Featherstone.
I remember the Green Lane club during the boom years, as my late uncle was a member there and we used to pay him a visit from time to time.
It was always a great atmosphere down Green Lane.
Neil also tells me that the club's Friday nights are picking up nicely, which is good news.
He also included some very good advice to other people involved in the running of social clubs.
Neil advises to contest every bill which arrives and to shop around.
The times have never been harder for those trying to run social clubs and, given the cost of bureaucracy and regulation in clubs these days, as well as the costly business rates, running a club in 2009 is only marginally less difficult than plaiting fog!
