Charity gig planned
MOORTHORPE Empire Club is hoping for a bumper attendance for a charity concert, which is being staged at the club on Thursday, May 15.
Club secretary Sam Lewis and concert secretary Gordon Wain would love to see the place packed to the rafters for the concert, which will raise funds for St Mary's Church Centenary Fund.
Hemsworth's favourite entertainer Kevin Kane will top the bill and other local acts, such as Predator and Saskia will make up the bill.
I hope it all goes well and lots of money is raised.
Moorthorpe Empire also has some interesting forthcoming attractions this month and the comedy and music act Fun Girl 2 and hi-tech trio Lovin' It are among the star attractions sure to be well received.
South Kirkby Miners' Club will stage its annual retired members 'do' tonight.
I am going along to do a little work on stage and I'll include a report on how things go in next week's column.
The Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries' Federation is urging club members in this area to get their clubs represented at their showcases.
The Hemsworth area is pretty much un-represented at club officials' meetings and it is hoped the annual meeting of this organisation, which takes place at Westgate Common Club in Wakefield on Wednesday, May 21, will see some people from this area travelling across for 7.30pm.
As I always point out when I mention the federation, the shows which follow the meetings are open for all club-goers to attend and admission is free.
Upton singer Michaela May will present this month's showcase and the acts appearing are singers Nik Major and Emma Dale, and zany entertainer Sarah Heart.
Rock band Sloe Gin will complete the bill and the show starts at 8.30pm.
Top singers Olivia Leigh, Scott Anson and Tamla Motown singer Carl Ashington are all lined up to entertain at Ryhill Liberal Club.
Olivia is a young singer from Normanton who saw only a couple of weeks ago when she took to the stage at The Alexandra WMC in Royston.
I personally believe that she could go a lot farther in this business. Scott is a great vocalist who has spent time away from the solo scene in recent years.
Carl is a 'happy-clappy' type of singer who really knows what club audiences want and delivers every single time.
It seems that there is plenty to enjoy at 'The Lib'.
The brilliant boy band Envy are the centre of attention as they are set to take the stage for a Sunday night appearance at Hemsworth Miners' Social Club in Fitzwilliam.
Envy are a real club-filling attraction and they have appeared with considerable success at this particular club before, so expect a packed house for this one!
If you have any news or views on the subject of the local club scene, I would like to hear from you.
