Wonderful neighbours
Now that it looks as though the snow and ice of recent weeks has gone, my wife and I would like to say a very big thank you to our family, friends and neighbours who took such great care of us during the freeze.
We are both very doddery senior citizens and found ourselves, like so many others, marooned!
That's when our wonderful neighbours rode to the rescue. They cleared our driveway and the paths and made sure we were OK. Staple foods like bread, milk and potatoes were collected and delivered as and when we required them. The young lady next door used her 4x4 to help drivers who were having difficulty on our road, and her boys dug out our drive and paths; it was marvellous.
I am young enough to remember the winter of 1947 and the horrors it brought. My family finished up picking coal on the pit tips to keep warm; then neighbour looked out for neighbour. This time, the friendship and the camaraderie shone through. It would be lovely to see it maintained in the coming months and years. Thank you so very much to all our helpers, we are most grateful.
