We should get together

DURING the past few weeks we have had a rush by local councillors trying their level best, through the good columns of the Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express, to impress our local electorate.

Could there be an election in the offing? Of course there is.

But how touchy some of them are. I always thought councillors were thick-skinned.

One leading councillor had the audacity (Express letter, February 18) to say in his letter that his words or comments had been taken out of context. I did not see the words, 'I am sorry'.

Then we turn to Coun Capstick. Oh dear.

What we should do is get together. We are elected for the benefit of the community and save our Citizens' Advice Bureau and other local facilities, we thank the mayor of South Elmsall, Bobby Brown, along with Wilf Benson and Fred Hilton.

If Coun Capstick wants any help from Wilf or Fred he only has to ask and it will be forthcoming.

We as councillors are here to sort out the problems of the local area.

Flooding has reared its ugly head again with our residents fearing to sleep on a night because of this problem.

With snow gritting has to be tackled. We have 12 months before it comes again.

If the district council will not grit, the parish councils can. It's action that our local community wants.

With regard to Coun Wright's comments on Wilf not knowing his own ward 14 boundary, the electorate did by electing him with a whoping majority.

Coun Harold Mills,

Wentworth Drive,

South Kirkby
