Think twice about gesture
I DON’T know how many readers of our local Express saw the picture in the Evening Post on Saturday, May 5.
The leader of Wakefield Council, Coun Peter Box and the 12 new councillors for Labour all had the photograph taken in one group, with all their arms in the air with clenched fists. Did they not know what gesture they were using?
Correct me if I’m wrong, I seem to have seen photos from the last war when the Nazis used that gesture.
If football supporters used it they would be in trouble, banned from further games and rightly so.
The recent case that comes to mind is the killer in Norway, Anders Brevik, using the clenched fist in the dock at his trial. The judge said it was an insult to the people of Norway.
You would think someone like Coun Box would have realised what he was doing.
By all means have a group photograph taken, which included the new councillor for South Elmsall and South Kirkby Michelle Collins, with her fist salute.
But in future Coun Collins just think what you are doing.
The people who voted for you expect and demand the best that you can do and it does not include right arm salutes with a clenched fist.
