The roads are diabolical
I feel comments made by Coun Harrison in the report 'Post mortem on big freeze' (Express, January 28) were inappropriate.
No-one would compare the situation in respect to the recent bad weather with the suffering of the people of Haiti. But the question remains, why did the South Elmsall, Moorthorpe and South Kirkby roads and pavements appear to be ungritted for most of the bad weather period, including even the major road and bus routes?
To venture out gave risk of injury or a possibility of a fatality – people could not go about their business, and could not get to work. It was interesting that roads in nearby North and South Yorkshire appeared to be in a better state, and nearer to Wakefield the roads again were much safer.
Even before the bad weather, the road conditions around here were diabolical, poorly repaired and full of pot holes. I think a review of the situation is warranted and that Coun Harrison should support the people in this area on this matter.
