Put baths in town
What a bad idea it would be to put the new baths on the old South Kirkby pit site.
It would be too far out of the way for people to walk to, especially in wet and cold weather.
The old pit site is going to be an industrial estate and hopefully full of factories and offices, which wouldn't mix too well with the baths. For example, there would be lots of traffic, making it potentially dangerous to people travelling to the swimming pool.
Also, if it was put on the old pit site, it would give Wakefield Council a good excuse to shut Minsthorpe swimming baths, which has been a fantastic pool for our area and should continue to benefit the areas which have become larger over the years.
The ideal place to put it would be minutes from the bus station, within walking distance for many people.
There would also be lots of parking at Hemsworth High School, where it could be walked to by every school in Hemsworth and be a bus ride away for other places like Ackworth, Kinsley, and Fitzwilliam.
It would be a bad idea to put the baths out of walking distance for most kids. It would be a white elephant stuck in the middle of an industrial estate.
