Paying for years to come

AT long last we find out that The Windsurfer, at Hemsworth Water Park, is going to be turned into a restaurant and kiddies play area.

Also we hear about all the good things the council has passed at its meetings.

But no-one tells you the bad things.

People from out of the area will be charged 100 per cent more for parking.

Also the footballers' fees from next year will go up 25 per cent, 50 per cent the year after and 100 per cent the year after that.

These are not my figures but the councillors' – well done councillors.

Who would consider passing a scheme for a kiddies play area near water and upstairs for adult education purposes?

What do we have schools for? We also have these facilities in Kinsley at the community centre.

Has any ratepayer been asked about these schemes by any of our councillors?

I think the answer will be no.

Does anyone know how our council is made up?

We have six voted in and nine co-opted members.

One councillor has moved out of the area and should not be allowed to have his say on The Windsurfer.

With further reference to that premises, Mrs Pattison (the town clerk) states in the Express that no-one is attending The Windsurfer.

But only three weeks ago or so in the Express she stated there would be 60,000 attending the park from April to September.

If this is not well attended, I wonder what is.

Mrs Pattison also stated that there are hooligans in the park.

In my opinion they have brought this on themselves by closing youth centres and The Windsurfer, a place where they could come and play pool and snooker.

I also see that we have been allotted 30,000 towards the alterations.

We had this figure last year but the 30,000 was used for maintaining The Windsurfer.

My suggestion is this 30,000 and the 30,000 we could get for leasing the premises comes to 60,000, which would make a lot of difference to our rates.

We must have the only council in the country that is not cutting back and instead going along with these stupid ideas.

Don't forget you, the ratepayer, will be paying for this for years to come.
