Not up to standard
A CLEAR £2.55m should have been raised in a deal to sell off the sports complex on Kirkby Road, Hemsworth.
Three planning applications, which formed a turn-key agreement, and a 106 legal agreement were submitted to Wakefield Council.
They were for replacement state-of-the-art football facilities on Sandygate, a community centre on Bullenshaw Road and outline planning permission for access to the complex for housing.
But some of the promised facilities have not been provided. This is at a loss to the people of the community who use the facilities on Kirkby Road.
There is no clubhouse, no run-off area on the football fields, no dug-outs and no goal posts.
The football teams, which were assured of a replacement state-of-the-art football facility, have been told by Hemsworth Town Council they will have to use their own funds or apply for grants to finish the project.
The council is also going to run the sports ground on a commercial basis but it was supposed to be a replacement facility for our football teams.
Hemsworth Town Council has raised 107,000 through this year's precept - this is at a cost to the ratepayer. Of that 93,000 is to operate the community centre, with only 14,000 going to the football facility.
It was the sale of the complex that originally generated the money for these projects.
A report by Steve Wells Associates states that the facilities provided do not meet the standards agreed by Sports England.
The surveyor estimates that the developer has made cost savings of 51,211 by not complying with the agreed facilities.
