IN last week's Express Coun Benson invites me to answer his letter.

The 1991 incident I refer to in my letter is something the Independent group's leader Coun Harold Mills cannot boast about.

He and his group of 'Kirkmoor Labour' people took control of South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council from 1991 to 1995.

The thriving youth training scheme which was externally funded was already in progress and working very well, funded by very nearly 250,000 per annum.

Within months they lost this externally funded training scheme through petty happenings among themselves.

Harold Mills had been an elected member for years but never had any power or experience to manage such a council.

His next move was to get rid of council tax payers' assets, more or less giving them away.

Two such assets, both down Carr Lane, South Kirkby, were Chapel Workshops, in its own grounds with car park spaces sold for 24,000 (can you buy a terrace house for that?), and Brooksfield, a large plot of prime house building land, which already had outline planning on it, sold for 70,000.

It now has a large house and bungalow estate on it and the developer must have thought all his Christmases had come at once.

If Coun Benson wants to know more, he has only to ask.

Mollie Wright,

Park Avenue, South Kirkby
