Incensed at increase
I read with interest the report about the increase in the Hemsworth Town Council precept in the Express, February 4.
I feel I will be one of many Hemsworth parishioners incensed at the increase.
I was heavily involved in the fight to save our sports complex and to stop the monstrosity of a community centre being built.
The reality is I was right, the new centre and football pitches have not yet been completed and we are suffering an increase in precept to pay for it.
At the time I asked the town council members why the deal had not yet been signed and money exchanged hands and this is still the case today, yet the building has taken place and is near completion.
My argument is if the deal had been completed and money and contracts exchanged, at least the community would have been making monthly interest, which could have helped our coffers.
Fact is, the new facilities will not bring in the expected revenue in rent and hire of more than 125,000 per annum and I predict a large increase next year in precept.
In conclusion, we have great football facilities at Hemsworth Arts and Community College and IT facilities etc.. at the Hemsworth Initiative.
The new community centre in my opinion, as with the football pitches, will be a burden to this community forever.
We have suffered more than 100,000 loss at the water park and I see the same happening here.
