Depraved images

It is with much relief and surprise that this government has finally seen sense on one subject at least – the subject being the downloading and distribution of violent pornography on the internet.

Before January 26, unless it was child pornography, the police had their hands tied if depraved images were found on a computer.

Now, thank goodness, that is all about to change.

You may wonder why I write about this subject. Well, a couple of years ago I was the recipient of such filthy material from a so-called friend.

He gained my trust and that of my entire family. I now believe I was groomed.

This man was at my place of work, he had just separated from a long-term partnership and we offered him friendship.

He shared a social life with members of my family, we exchanged e-mails as he was on a computer course and gave me valuable information to help me use my computer better.

He then began sending jokes and distributing self-made posters of a lewd kind to other people in the workplace. This then progressed to the most unimaginable filth I have ever witnessed, sent to me by e-mail.

The e-mail arrived with the heading 'hope you like this'. To say I was shocked when I saw the material inside was an understatement.

I showed it to work colleagues and friends who were equally shocked and I stopped the friendship at once.

His excuse was it had been sent in error as a 'pop up', but this kind of material would not be available as a pop up.

It was shown to the police but their hands were tied because, despite it being immoral, it was not illegal.

I could not have this man arrested.

But now someone who receives unwanted violent porn from another person can take action.

Offenders can face a hefty fine, or even jail, thanks to the wisdom of some people in parliament who have finally got it right.
