Councillor's out of touch

I would like to voice my disgust with Coun Laurie Harrison's comments in the 'Post mortem on big freeze' story in Express, January 28.

Despite many complaints and concerns being raised by local residents and in light of a review being agreed at a full council meeting, I find Coun Harrison's view of the matter being 'blown out of all proportion' to be completely out of touch with reality.

It is, of course, horrific to watch the shocking pictures of the victims of Haiti that Coun Harrison asks us to spare a thought for. However, his responsibility as an elected councillor is to his constituents, dealing with local issues and acting on behalf of the specific communities that elected him, including those that did not vote for him (as stated by Wakefield Council).

I'm quite sure that Coun Harrison was not one of those trapped in his own home during the snow and icy conditions. I know of many people who could not leave their homes for more than a week. To speak of those who were trapped in such a disrespectful and uncaring manner is nothing short of offensive to the people he is supposed to represent.
