Bid to keep children safe
I WOULD like to put the record straight concerning Robin Sutcliffe's letter of March 25.
He says he would like to separate places for children's play from the wider public realms of roads, parking lots, building sites etc that I made reference to in my letter.
Perhaps Mr Sutcliffe should go to Specsavers, as parking lots, roads and building sites were never mentioned in my letter for children's play areas.
I am not impressed by Robin Sutcliffe's letter.
He still believes that children should take risks. I do not.
The reason for this is my four great grandchildren's ages range between two and 14 years and each one has a different sense of danger.
The youngest needs to be warned not to climb on chairs or put objects in his mouth etc.
The older children are told to wear safety helmets when cycling or skateboarding.
Children do get injured in recreation grounds.
They fall off swings, are hit by swings, fall off climbing frames into paddling pools, and not all accidents are reported.
Finally I remind Mr Sutcliffe that there are two factories on the same site.
One factory has an 8ft security fence round it, the Sutcliffe factory has a length of security fence removed.
Was it removed to allow children to take risks by taking the risk of going onto the factory site and getting injured?
I am sure that a security fence round the factory was part of the original planning permission and the district council should investigate this.
