Women united on estate
'EVERYBODY needs good neighbours' – so the women in this picture would agree.
The photograph was brought in by Derek Lloyd, of Chapelfields, South Kirkby, and shows many of the women who used to live on the town's Park Estate in the 1940s or 1950s.
Mr Lloyd – whose mum Annis Lloyd is pictured in the back row, second left – remembers growing up with the women, who used to do everything together.
Also pictured in the back row, second right, is Olwyn Davis and third right, Mrs Culshaw.
In the front row, from second left, are Mrs Tolley, Mrs Moore and Mrs Shakespeare.
Mr Lloyd said: "I remember most of these women from when I was growing up, but I don't remember all their names and thought it would be good to see if anyone else would recognise them. The women of Park Estate were always together – they held street parties and all sorts. We had some lovely times. That was back in the day when neighbours were neighbours and helped each other out. And if one person had a problem, then everyone had that problem until it got sorted out."
